Teaching Remotely: A Ready Made Alternative to a Traditional Test

Every Saturday, NGPF Fellows meet to discuss distance learning strategies, classroom tips & tricks, check in on one another, and just say hello.

The conversation in our last meeting was focused on the topic of alternative assessment ideas; something different than a traditional test. The main theme of this conversation was CHOICE: empowering students to choose an assessment type that is engaging to them.

Born from the conversation was this ASSESSMENT ALTERNATIVES CHOICE BOARD.

Teachers can make a copy of the Choice Board template and use the same strategy with their students, such as this Honors Personal Finance Final Exam as an end of the year project or assessment for a Personal Finance class.

A special thank you to the following NGPF Fellows for attending the meetup and contributing their work: Joel Chrisler, Julie Giglia, Kerri Herrild, Jodie Holmquist, Brian Johnson, Patrick Kubeny, Amanda Lucero, Brenda Martin-Lee, Diane Mondoro, Tony Montgomery, Barb O'Neil, Brian Page, Steve Penley, Courtney Poquette, Julius Prezelski, James Redelsheimer, Sara Shackett, Ruth Sisman, Jeff Snyder, Jill Thompson, and Amanda Volz.
